Breast Cancer Awareness Month Observed at Barpeta Cancer Centre

On the occasion of Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October, Barpeta Cancer Centre organised various awareness programmes to extend support to people affected with breast cancer and to create awareness on prevention and early detection. At Mandia Development block office, an awareness session was organised with District Social Welfare Anganawadi workers in the presence of Child Development Project Officer (CDPO). In the session, participants were explained about the signs and symptoms, risk factors, prevention measures and self-examination techniques of breast cancer. A screening camp was also organised at ACCF kiosk where eligible beneficiaries had availed the facility. Awareness sessions were also held in Dongra Village Panchayat office with Self-help group / village organization members; at Sila Village with Anganawadi workers and supervisor of Barpeta block Social Welfare Department. Breast Cancer is curable, if detected early. To facilitate early diagnosis, Assam Cancer Care Foundation hospitals provided free mammography for women above 45 years in the month of October. Mammography facility is available at affordable rates in all seven ACCF hospitals at Dibrugarh, Barpeta, Jorhat, Tezpur, Lakhimpur, Darrang, and Kokrajhar.
